The Past
This non-political, non-profit organization was
started in year 2000 in H. M. Hospital with 4
beds. It was officially registered with the
Chief District Officer's office in Kathmandu as
a Trust. We had to increase the bed to six due
to the increase demand within the first six
month. We paid a subsidized rate for the bed
which was sponsored by various individuals.
After nearly 18 months, and having cared for 85
patients, we thought that these patients
required a home like atmosphere and a team of
dedicated nurses just to take care of terminally
ill patients.
The Present
With the view of giving specialized Hospice care
alone, we built an independent building with a
home like atmosphere and staffed with dedicated
nursing staff. This lies in a peaceful area in
Lagankhel, but near enough for basic facilities,
like transport and food.
Hospice Nepal provides one general cabin with
six beds and two cabins for single or double
occupancies. The general beds are free and
includes a storage cum bed for one visitor and a
common bathrooms. The cabins have attached
bathroom and a storage cum bed for visitors. We
take minimum charge for the cabins and this
money also goes to the Hospice. All rooms have
fans and heaters for summer and winter. Other
facilities for patients are a Television, radio
cassette player, games and a beautiful garden
for the patients and their family. There is even
a place for cooking food if one wishes and we
have provided a kerosene stove.
The patients are cared by a dedicated staff
twenty-four hours a day. A doctor visits once a
day for consultation. These are all free for all
patients. We also have all the special medicines
required for these patients.
The Future
Our aim in the future is to make 25 bedded
Hospice surrounded by green garden. The patients
should be able to take a walk in the garden and
relax with nature. Our ultimate goal is to make
the patient and their relatives as comfortable
as possible by medication for physical comfort,
and also provide spiritual and mental comfort in
a peaceful, homelike atmosphere. This is
Hospice.
Next to the building would be a guest-house for
the relatives of patient so that they can also
live comfortably while they take care of the
patient. For the patient and their relatives, we
will be building a meditation hall, a small
temple, a small stupa etc. Our ultimate goal is
to help the patient and their relatives
physically, mentally, and spiritually.
We are already moving towards our aim by
designing the future building by a very well
known architect, Mr. Rajesh Shrestha of
Vastukala.
Rest, including the land and the building will
slowly evolve and this is where you can play a
major role by helping us in any way you can.
This would mean instead of depending on
government for everything, we hope to provide a
state of art Hospice by ourselves with our own
effort. |
